Description
CARTA (Cube Analysis and Rendering Tool for Astronomy) is an image visualization and analysis tool designed to meet the demands of the ALMA, VLA, and SKA pathfinders - ASKAP and MeerKAT, and is jointly developed by an international collaboration between ASIAA, IDIA, NRAO, the Department of Physics at the University of Alberta, and AusSRC. The mission of CARTA is to provide usability, scalability, and maintainability in the big data era by focusing on UI/UX and utilizing modern web technologies and computing parallelization. CARTA supports a wide range of standard astronomical data formats, including FITS, CASA, MIRIAD, HDF5 (IDIA schema) and provides a suite of powerful tools for scientific analysis. We present an overview of CARTA’s capabilities, with a focus on the new features (Multi-color image blending, Channel map view mode, HiPS2FITS online image query, etc) introduced in the latest release.
