Description

Double-peaked (DP) emission lines have been revealed via galaxy spectroscopic observations. However, the physical drivers giving rise to the profiles and the underlying galaxy population remain poorly understood. In this poster, I will present our exploration of the DP galaxy properties by utilizing the largest spectroscopic dataset provided by the Dark Energy Spectroscopic Instrument (DESI). We first detect and build the largest DP galaxy sample which reveals a significant increase in the DP detection rate among star-forming galaxies by a factor of 20 compared to previous results based on lower resolution spectra. We explore the correlations between the presence of double-peaked emission lines and the velocity separation of the two components, and galaxy properties, including star-formation rate (SFR), stellar mass, active galactic nuclei activity (AGN), and galaxy morphology. These new measurements enable us to disentangle the possible origins of DP galaxies, such as galaxy mergers, dual AGNs, and internal galaxy kinematics, shedding light on the nature of DP galaxies.
