Description
Professor Takaaki Kajita is a Distinguished University Professor at the University of Tokyo and the former Director of the Institute for Cosmic Ray Research (ICRR). He was co-awarded the 2015 Nobel Prize in Physics for the historic discovery of atmospheric neutrino oscillations, a breakthrough that fundamentally altered the Standard Model by proving that neutrinos have mass. His pioneering work with the Kamiokande and Super-Kamiokande detectors has cemented his legacy in particle astrophysics. Currently, Professor Kajita serves as the Principal Investigator of the KAGRA gravitational-wave observatory, continuing his leadership in the exploration of the universe's most elusive signals.
