DESCRIPTION:Speakers: Pochung Chen (NTHU)\n\n\nProf. Seth Lloyd\nProfessor
of Mechanical Engineering\, MIT · Director\, Center for Extreme Quantum
 Information Theory (xQIT)\, MIT · Co-founder\, Turing Quantum\nBiography\
nSeth Lloyd is professor of Quantum Mechanical Engineering at MIT. Dr. Llo
yd's research focuses on problems on information and complexity in the uni
verse. In 1993\, Dr. Lloyd created the first technologically realizable mo
del for quantum computation\, showing how to perform universal quantum log
ic gates using the interaction between light and atoms\, and how to wire t
hose gates together to construct a quantum computer. Dr. Lloyd worked with
experimental collaborators to create the first atom-optical quantum logic
gate\, to perform the first quantum algorithm\, and to design and build t
he first superconducting qubits. His work has established fundamental phys
ical limits to computation\, quantum communication\, and precision measure
ment. Dr. Lloyd created the first algorithm for quantum simulation\, and i
s co-discoverer of the quantum linear systems algorithm\, the capacity of
the quantum communication channel\, and multiple algorithms for quantum ma
chine learning and quantum AI. He is author of over three hundred scientif
 ic papers\, and of `Programming the Universe\,' (Knopf\, 2006).\nRegistrat
ion is strongly recommended. Students are especially welcome.\n\nhttps://i
